Mesmerizing Experience of the Kailash Mansarover Yatra by Helicopter

Mount Kailash

Every year, Hindu pilgrims from the world over set off for the Kailash Mansarover Yatra to pay their reverences to Lord Shiva. The great Lord is believed to dwell inside Mount Kailash in a perennially meditative state. Of late, Kailash Mansarover Yatra by helicopter tours have started being organized by a few selected tour operators.

The 11 day Yatra features visits to some of the most revered temples of Lord Shiva and of other Hindu gods & goddesses in and around the Mansarovar. Some of these attractions include Pashupatinath Temple, Nepalgunj, Simikot and Nepal’s capital city, Kathmandu. Given below is a day by day breakdown of the itinerary of the entire trip.

Day 1 marks the guests’ arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. Airport transfers are already arranged and guests are led to their overnight accommodation. The actual Yatra begins on

Day 2 with a sightseeing excursion to Pashupatinath Temple, Budhanilkantha Temple and Baudhnath Stupa. In the afternoon, transfers are arranged for the guests to be taken back to the airport where they board a flight to Nepalgunj. Here, the provision for dinner and overnight stay is made at Hotel Siddhartha.

Guests are taken to Simikot on Day 3 from where a helicopter ride is arranged for traveling to Hilsa. Upon arrival at Hilsa, post a tea and snacks session, a walking tour is arranged to Sher after which an hour long drive in a Land Cruiser is organized to Purang.

All of Day 5 is spent in Purang. This helps guests to get acclimatized to the high altitude and low temperature. Guests can indulge in some sightseeing on their own, though. The sixth day takes the touring party to Mansarover via road. A mid-route halt is arranged at Rakshas Taal in the backdrop of the majestic Mount Kailash. After lunch, guests are taken on a jeep safari to Lake Mansarover where their accommodation is arranged.

Day 7 takes pilgrims to Asthapad, after which a scenic drive is undertaken towards Yama Dwar. Depending upon the type of package availed, the guests are split into two separate groups. One group travels forth to the Parikrama and starts trekking from Yama Dwar to Diraphuk.

The other group returns to Darchen and wait for the return of the other group. The next day, both the groups head for a trekking tour to Dolma-La Pass. It is here that the holy lake Gauri Kund is located. Gauri Kund has a lot of legends associated with it and is of great mythological and religious value to Hindus.

The last leg of the Yatra marks the return of the pilgrims following the same route. After a Land Cruiser drive to Hilsa, guests are taken to Simikot via helicopters. After an overnight stay, the guests are taken to the Simikot airport from where they again board a flight to Nepalgunj. After staying at a suitable accommodation for the course of the night, the trip is rounded off at Kathmandu from where the guests board their flights back home.

The best part about the itinerary of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by helicopter is that it provides the pilgrims with ample time to rest between journeys. Furthermore, the sights and sounds of snow clad mountains are pure visual bliss and make for a cherishable trip. Most packages provided by tour operators are all-inclusive and mostly cover all expenses including Chinese visa, tour guides and even client permit fee.
